Garvin County All-Stars defeat 'Pen State'
1998 — 10 Years Ago
News: Pauls Valley High School has come one step closer to addressing the technology needs of the students and equipping the district with the latest technology. This year the Sooner Schooner Pioneer Travel Club committed to install 12 live drops for network and Internet access at the school.
Entertainment: Now showing. “Armageddon” starring Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck.
Sports: • The junior grapplers of Jayson’s House of Pain competed with 500 young grapplers over the weekend in Marlow. The JHOP team stormed through the tournament bringing home five championships, two runners-up, a third place finish and a fourth place finish.
1983 — 25 Years Ago
News: Long-time Pauls Valley resident, Alma Wilson, will be inducted into the Oklahoma Women’s Hall of Fame tonight in Oklahoma City. Wilson’s numerous accomplishments culminated with her appointment as the first ever woman on the State Supreme Court.
Entertainment: Royal Twin Theater – Now showing on Cinema II, “Eddie and the Cruisers.”
Sports • All 10 seniors on the Pauls Valley High School football team received first team All-District honors and Panther head coach, Tim Reynolds, was chosen as “Coach of the Year.” Also singled out as “Defensive Player of the Year” was Kirk Moore and Bill McKee was named “Defensive Lineman of the Year.”
1958 — 50 Years Ago
News: Oklahoma’s only neon tube transformer manufacturer and rebuilder is now in full swing in Pauls Valley and owner, John Adams, thinks it can easily become an industry hiring 10 to 15 men and women by Jan. 1. The new business is an expansion of Adams Electric and Supply Company at 509 South Chickasaw
Entertainment: • Corral Drive In – “Baby Face Nelson” starring Mickey Rooney.
• Brewer’s Drive In – Gina Lollabrigida sets all your senses aflame in “Beautiful But Dangerous.”
Sports: The Garvin County All-Stars either brought a lot of cigarettes or they were playing heads-up football Saturday night at Wacker Park as they defeated the team from McAlester State Penitentiary, lovingly referred to as “Pen State,” 36-0. Pauls Valley High School football coach, Harry Phillips, played quarterback for the Garvin County squad.

“Bioshock 2” proves story driven games can still thrive
If I had to peg one reason why my enthusiasm for first person shooting games faded out years ago it would most likely be the lack of a gripping story. In fact, video games on the console drove me to not to play anything other than PC games for the same reason after the retirement of the Super Nintendo with no revival until the first Xbox variant.
