McDonald’s comes to PV
1999 — 10 Years Ago
News: Ground was broken this week at the east end of Diffie Lane and to the west of Seminole Drive for the start of the construction of 25 new homes. The Chapel Ridge Homes addition will consist of homes 1,200 or more square feet and the name of the new street will be Pawnee.
Entertainment: Royal Theatre – Now showing. Sandra Bullock and Ben Affleck star in “Forces Of Nature.”
Sports: A 4-for-4 afternoon with two home runs by Jill Malaska helped propel the Pauls Valley Lady Panthers offense while a triple play on defense sparked Pauls Valley to their second straight win defeating OKC McGuinness 16-7. McGuinness put together a mini rally in the seventh but they stranded two runners on base and Pauls Valley ended up with the victory.
1984 — 25 Years Ago
News: The opening date for the latest in a series of national food chains to open in Pauls Valley should be the first weekend of July, said Bob Wagner, local franchise owner of McDonald’s. The restaurant will employ 75 persons in addition to four salaried managerial personnel.
Entertainment: Royal Twin Theatre – Now showing on Cinema 2, “The Right Stuff.”
Sports: The Pauls Valley Rotary Club will sponsor a Fishing Derby for children ages 4-12. It will be held Sat. from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Butler and Pesterfield farm pond north of Pauls Valley on Highway 77. Prizes will be provided by Otasco, TG&Y;, Winn’s, Jones’ Bait Shop and Fish ‘N Stuff of Wynnewood.
1959 — 50 Years Ago
News: The Whiskey Bend bridge over the Washita River between Maysville and Paoli was opened to traffic Wednesday afternoon following a brief ceremony. A new bridge was also constructed over Rush Creek on Highway 19-A south of the Brewer Drive In Theatre.
Business: Claxton’s – Claxton’s Dairy Valley will be holding their grand opening this week at 729 East Grant in Pauls Valley. We serve all ice cream products as well as charcoal burgers and Do-Dads.
Entertainment: Circus – The Al G. Kelly and Miller Bros. Circus will be coming to Wacker Park May 2nd. The 2nd largest circus will feature a 5-ton trained hippopotamus, real live giraffes, 21 elephants, 65 all-steel cars, 450 people, acres of tents and 218 animals.
Sports: Ten county grade school teams played a baseball tournament at McCarty Friday with Katie coming through four games undefeated for the top position. Other teams competing included Civit, Walker, Whitebead, Satterwhite, Mt. Zion, Hennepin, Parks and Antioch.

“Bioshock 2” proves story driven games can still thrive
If I had to peg one reason why my enthusiasm for first person shooting games faded out years ago it would most likely be the lack of a gripping story. In fact, video games on the console drove me to not to play anything other than PC games for the same reason after the retirement of the Super Nintendo with no revival until the first Xbox variant.
