PV Chamber appoints new manager
1999 — 10 Years Ago
News: Former Pauls Valley School Superintendent Dr. Grant Frankenberg resigned early last week from the position he held the last two years to accept an offer to work as Weatherford’s top educational administrator. In addition to serving as Pauls Valley’s superintendent, Frankenberg also worked the previous year as the high school principal.
Entertainment: Royal Theatre – Now showing. “Muppets From Space.”
Sports: Emily Hodge of Elmore City will be participating in the AAU Region 8 Track and Field Championships this month at Overland Park, Kansas, where she will be competing in the 100 and 400 meter hurdles. Emily qualified for the championships by bringing home gold in both events at the recent AAU meet held in Moore.
1984 — 25 Years Ago
News: All incumbents filing locally for re-election Monday drew opponents. In District 15 Senator Bill Branch and Harry Wollenberg both filed for that post, Sheriff Bob Holt and former deputy Bob Davis both filed as Democrats for the local sheriff’s post, and Kenneth Campbell who currently holds the county school superintendent’s post will face off with Wynnewood Democrat Cecil Henderson.
Entertainment: Royal Twin Theatre – Now showing on Cinema 1, “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” starring Harrison Ford.
Sports: Pauls Valley will host its first ever state baseball tournament for prep-age players (13-14) a week after it hosts a district prep tournament, Pauls Valley OK Kids League president Doug Strickland said. Pauls Valley Elks Lodge, with a record of 10-1, plays Stratford, 9-2, tonight to decide the district National League Champions.
1959 — 50 Years Ago
News: The appointment of Royce Hunter as new manager of the Pauls Valley Chamber of Commerce was announced by H.E. Sacra, president. Hunter replaces W.D. Matthews who served as Pauls Valley chamber manager about six weeks before returning to OKC last month.
Entertainment: Corral Drive In – Now showing. “The Big Country” starring Gregory Peck, Jean Simmons, Carroll Baker, Charlton Heston and Burl Ives.
Brewers’ Drive In – Trapped on the highway of terror! “Thunder Road” starring Robert Mitchum.
Ag: A total of 144 Garvin County 4-H Club boys and girls have paid their fees to attend the annual 4-H camp at Lake Murray next week. Two local 4-H members, Barbara Butler and Delayne Smith, will be in charge of the talent night program.

“Bioshock 2” proves story driven games can still thrive
If I had to peg one reason why my enthusiasm for first person shooting games faded out years ago it would most likely be the lack of a gripping story. In fact, video games on the console drove me to not to play anything other than PC games for the same reason after the retirement of the Super Nintendo with no revival until the first Xbox variant.
