Stillwater, Oklahoma — In light of the recent plane crash that took the lives of Oklahoma State University coach Kurt Budke and assistant coach Miranda Serna, the Oklahoma State women’s basketball team has canceled both games scheduled for this weekend with no makeup date in place.
Oklahoma State was scheduled to take on Grambling State at 2 p.m. Saturday at Gallagher-Iba Arena. They were also schedule to face the University of Texas-Arlington at 2 p.m. Sunday.
In addition, the Oklahoma State wrestling team has also decided to canceled its contest on Friday against Rutgers. The Cowboys have also canceled Sunday’s match against Missouri, with both events to be made up at a date still to be determined.
“With so many people mourning in the Oklahoma State community, we felt like it was best to postpone the matches and let the athletic department staff focus on a memorial,” coach John Smith said in a release. “We are fortunate that we are in a position to reschedule our events. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of coach Budke and coach Serna, Cowgirl basketball and the countless others deeply affected by this terrible news.”
The second-ranked Oklahoma State football team will still play at Iowa State at 7 p.m. Friday on ESPN, while the No. 2 Cowgirls soccer team will host Illinois in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, beginning at 5 p.m. Friday at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
