Pauls Valley, Oklahoma —
While every indication regarding a partnership between Pauls Valley General Hospital and St. Anthony Health System seemed to lead toward an affiliation agreement, Tuesday night’s hospital authority meeting came with an announcement of a change in direction.
In fact, a Tier 1 affiliation between the facilities where six months would be used to consider a lease of PVGH was still the direction officials were leaning even as of a media meeting Oct. 13. However, hospital CEO Gayle Sturgis noted how a combination of existing hospital debt and a lack of a positive enough financial gain means the process needs to instead be a management agreement.
“The original intent when we came to the city council was for us to sign a Tier 1 affiliation with St. Anthony’s Hospital, but when we left the city council last time we really felt the directive was to find a way to get to a lease as quickly as possible,” said Sturgis. “When we compare an affiliation to a management agreement, an affiliation will take us longer to get to a lease so we’re going to abandon that agreement.”
