Pauls Valley, Oklahoma —
It’s all about community as two Pauls Valley churches will soon host free Thanksgiving dinners.
Anyone and everyone is invited to the two holiday gatherings this week.
The first is hosted by Grace Baptist Church, which will hold a dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19.
The church is located near state Highway 19 on the east side of Pauls Valley.
Another big holiday meal for the community is an annual thing now for Cornerstone Community Church.
The dinner goes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day — Thursday, Nov. 22 — at Punkin’s Bar-B-Que, located at the former site of Little Ben’s Pizza, 1911 West Grant.
A church official has said preparations are being made for hundreds of hungry visitors expected to come for the annual event.
Although a different holiday a handful of other activities are already lined for the Christmas season.
One is this weekend as a number of merchants in downtown Pauls Valley will be the place for an open house event scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17.
Angel Tree campaigns are in full swing in both PV and Elmore City.
Angel Tree sign-up also wraps up Saturday morning, Nov. 17, at Pauls Valley’s Public Library on North Willow Street.
Angels are also now available at the library for those interested in giving gifts to low-income students in PV and Whitebead.
To find out more about helping the Angel Tree gift-giving effort for Elmore City kids, check with First State Bank or call 580-788-2213.
Entries are now sought for Pauls Valley’s Christmas Parade of Lights.
The parade itself will get underway at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3 in downtown PV.
Anyone interested in having an entry in the parade is encouraged to call Erin Creach at city hall, 405-238-3308.
Cooks in Garvin County are also encouraged to get their recipes out for a chili cookoff that benefits 4-H programs in the area.
The cookoff is set from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9 at the county fairgrounds in PV.
Call 405-238-6681 for information as the deadline for free entry is Nov. 30. More on the event will come later in the PV Democrat.
Those interested in signing up to receive a Christmas food basket from the Pauls Valley Samaritans can apply starting in early December.
Sign-ups are from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 6-7 and Dec. 10-11 and 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Dec. 12 at the PV Chamber of Commerce, 112 E. Paul.
