Pauls Valley big part of Main Street honors

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Pauls Valley’s Main Street program is well represented among the finalists for nearly two dozen competitive awards.

The announcement was made by the Oklahoma Main Street Center as all finalists will be honored, and the winner announced, at the 24rd annual Main Street Awards Banquet on May 7 at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.

The top honor for PV is being listed as among the top 10 Main Street communities in the state.

The Community of the Year Award will recognize the Main Street community that led other towns by earning the most quality assurance points during the 2012 calendar year.

Along with PV, the other communities listed in alphabetical order include Bartlesville, Enid, Hobart, Laverne, Newkirk, Ponca City, Prague, Sulphur and Woodward.

The top community will be announced at the banquet.

Pauls Valley is also an award finalist in a number of other Main Street categories.

• Best Creative Fundraising Effort - Phantom Fundraiser Ball.

• Creative New Event - Living Dead Center Festival and Zombie 5K Run and the Trash in Fashion Show.

• Best Adaptive Reuse Project - Pauls Valley Arts and Cultural Center and Main Street Office.

• Best Public Improvement Project - Pauls Valley Arts and Cultural Center and Main Street Office.

• Best Façade Rehabilitation Over $10,000 - Pauls Valley Arts and Cultural Center and Main Street Office.

“These awards highlight and represent the best from the businesses, communities and programs throughout Oklahoma,” said Linda Barnett, Oklahoma Main Street Center director.

“These award entries, sent in by the local Main Street Programs, showcase the enthusiasm, creativity and responsibility toward increasing revenue and creating jobs for their local downtown business districts.”

Each award category falls under one of the “four points” in the Main Street Approach – Organization, Promotion, Economic Restructuring and Design.

Panels of outside judges for each point review the entries and determine the winners.
