Oklahoma Aloha

Dear Editor,

I was born and raised on a farm outside Elmore City. Like so many "kids", happiness is found far from home. I now live in Maui, Hawaii and recently received an "Okie Care Package" from my sister who lives in Edmond. The package contained food items made in various cities around Oklahoma.

While enjoying a delicious Pound Cake on our lanai, (that's patio in Okie terms -Ha), I noticed it was made in Lindsay by B & D Farms. I dropped B & D Farms a note thanking them for the great cake and all the memories of Garvin County it brought back to me; going to Lindsay to sell bales of broom corn, the joy of having money from this cash crop, the fantastic skills of the girls basketball teams in Lindsay, etc.

To my surprise I recently received a package from B & D containing some wonderful peanut patties. Included was a hand written letter from Tina Martin, the owner, talking about mutual people we might know in Garvin County. It was like visiting with a neighbor across the back yard fence.

I live on an Island that celebrates the Spirit of Aloha (love and friendship). My adopted state could learn the true meaning of Aloha by visiting folks in small towns around Garvin County. The friendliness people in the world live in Oklahoma!

I treasure my Oklahoma roots.
