Be a part of holiday parade

bporterfield@pvdemocrat.com — The call is out for any groups to jump into the holiday spirit with both feet and be a participant and not just a spectator during an upcoming Christmas parade in Pauls Valley.

A big event every year in the heart of PV, complete with lights, decorations and even the big guy himself, Santa, the Christmas Parade of Lights is set for a 7 p.m. start on Monday, Dec. 3.

One parade official leading the charge this year is inviting the public to get involved and actually be in the parade when the event next month rolls into downtown PV.

“We would love to have entries for the parade,” said PV’s tourism director Erin Creach.

“Entries can be a float, a vehicle or a walking group,” she said.

“It doesn’t have to be an elaborate float or something from the Rose Bowl parade. It can just be a trailer.

“I have had people ask me if their floats needed lights or other decorations. Do what’s best for your organization.”

Any groups thinking about entering the parade are encouraged to call Creach at city hall, 405-238-3308, for information on the participant forms.

Those forms, which can be emailed or faxed, are needed as soon as possible but will likely be accepted up right after the Thanksgiving holiday.

As for any parade floats, themes to be judged are religious, children’s and a kind of general category. There will be prize money for the top three entries in each of the categories.

“That money is donated to the parade by supporters in the community,” Creach said.

To enter something into the parade there’s no real cost. All that’s asked is a small fee for each entry that goes to a good community cause.

The entry fee is a $10 value toy to be donated to the Pauls Valley Angel Tree campaign, which benefits low income students in PV and Whitebead.

Once this year’s parade does begin the route will be the same as in the past.

It starts at the Burr Center, moves north on Chickasaw Street, makes a left turn on Paul Avenue at the site of city hall, then makes another left turn on Willow Street as the procession travels back to the Burr parking lot.

For Creach this is an important parade considering it’s the first one led by the city of PV instead of the local chamber of commerce.

“This is a new role for the city with the tourism and economic development. We’re more than happy to partner with Della,” Creach said, referring to Della Wilson, president of PV’s chamber.

“We know the parade is very important to the community. We want to continue the tradition and make this a great parade.”
