Two days of testimony wasn’t enough as a non-jury trial for an Elmore City area assault case dating back to 2010 had more time scheduled for later this month.
The trial in a Garvin County District courtroom is for Stan Williams, 39, who is facing formal charges ranging from assault to kidnapping to burglary.
This first phase of testimony wrapped up Tuesday afternoon as Garvin County Assistant District Attorney Tara Portillo rested the state’s case against Williams.
Defense attorney Charles Douglas did call two witnesses to the stand but is expected to have at least two more testify for the defense. One of those could potentially be the defendant himself.
The trial overseen by District Judge Greg Dixon has been scheduled to continue on Jan. 24 in the same Pauls Valley courtroom.
Williams is accused of assaulting his estranged wife and others during an incident on Dec. 21, 2010.
The multiple charges facing Williams accuse him of forcing his way into the house where his wife lived when the two were going through divorce proceedings more than two years ago.
During her testimony on Monday it was Lisa Williams who said she was at her Elmore City area home when her husband came over to talk with her about something upsetting him.
Testimony indicated the defendant might have believed, true or untrue, his wife had an extra marital affair and a friend of hers knew but didn’t tell him.
According to Lisa Williams, the two took a short drive that included a “lot of screaming.”
When they returned to the house she said Stan ran to the residence while threatening two women who were friends of his wife.
Lisa testified she and a friend were thrown to the floor several times by the defendant before he came out of a room with a gun, which she claimed he used to threaten to kill both women.
He instead left the house bringing the ordeal to an end.
