Two get charges for store break-in
Two of three suspects arrested for a break-in at a Pauls Valley convenience store this week are now facing formal criminal charges.
Felony charges of second-degree burglary have been filed against Ryan Scott Dinwiddie, 28, and Clarance Willie Brooks III, 23, both of PV.
Officials in the district attorney’s office here declined to file charges against the third suspect taken into custody, Lance Kyle Childress, 21.
The three were initially arrested Wednesday after a break-in earlier that same day at the Stop-N-Go store in the 400 block of East Grant.
However, it was Dinwiddie and Brooks who prosecutors have formally charged with their alleged involvement in the burglary.
The incident started in the early morning hours of Wednesday when a witness contacted PV police about a burglary in progress after claiming to see three male subjects next to the store with the front door’s glass broken out.
Authorities later reported two of the three subjects, Dinwiddie and Brooks, admitted to forcing their way into the store and taking a variety of items before fleeing the scene.
Within minutes after the incident was reported officers spotted two male subjects running northbound across Grant Avenue onto North Cherry Street.
One of those subjects then took off running, while the second, later identified as Dinwiddie, was stopped and placed in investigative custody.
Officers reported they learned the subject running away was Brooks, while a third suspect could possibly be Childress.
Evidence included a surveillance video from another local store earlier that same day showing Brooks making a purchase. It also showed the clothing worn by Brooks matched that of the fleeing subject earlier in the day, authorities said.
According to police, Dinwiddie confessed to breaking into the store with two subjects.
Brooks and Childress were later found and arrested at a residence in the 500 block of East Bradley.
Brooks is reported to have also admitted to stealing from the store but refused to sign a statement, while Childress refused to speak to officers, according to a filed report.
For Dinwiddie and Brooks their next court appearance on the burglary charges is currently set for July 17.
