Fast, wet track not so good
Driving at a speed described as unsafe for the wet conditions was the listed cause of a one-vehicle accident in the Pauls Valley area over the holiday weekend.
One injury came from the accident occurring Sunday morning about four miles south of PV.
Authorities reported a 1996 Chevrolet was traveling southbound on Interstate 35 when it went off the roadway with three Oklahoma City teenagers inside.
Speed and a wet roadway from the rain of a summer storm passing through the area combined to cause the wreck, according to state troopers.
The vehicle was driven by 18-year-old Kelsey Renee Hodges.
However, troopers reported it was a passenger, Brianna N. Montoya, 16, who sustained a serious injury.
At a listed time of 8:30 a.m. Sunday the driver lost control of the vehicle as it hydroplaned forcing it off the roadway and into the center median. There it collided with a temporary concrete barrier.
Both Montoya and Hodges were taken by Pauls Valley E.M.S. to PV General Hospital as a third person, Nick J. Roberts, 18, was not injured.
Hodges was treated and released, while Montoya was transferred by ambulance to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. She was initially listed in serious condition with head and neck injuries.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper Tracey Laxton of the Murray/Garvin County Detachment reported the only individual not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident was Montoya.
Assisting at the wreck site were Garvin County deputies and Wynnewood firefighters.
