Cell phone cause of wreck

The distraction of a cell phone is believed to have caused a weekend accident that sent a Wynnewood motorist off a Clinton area highway and injured her 4-month-old baby.

The accident involved Amber Galvan, 21, and her son, Noah Galvan, who authorities reported was riding in a child restraint safety seat.

Troopers reported the Wynnewood woman was driving a 2005 Chevrolet westbound on Interstate 40. The crash time is listed as 10:05 p.m. Saturday in Custer County near Clinton.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers who investigated the crash said it occurred because Galvan was distracted by a cell phone as she drove. The distraction is believed to have caused the vehicle to run off the roadway to the right as it entered into a broad slide and rolled one-quarter time before coming to rest on the driver’s side.

Galvan, who reportedly was not wearing seat belts when the accident occurred, was later treated and released from Integris Clinton Regional Hospital.

Her baby was initially taken by Clinton EMS to the same hospital before being taken by air ambulance to Presbyterian Tower in Oklahoma City, where he was admitted in stable condition with head injuries.

Assisting troopers at the accident scene were Clinton police and Custer County deputies.
