Fire, fatal wreck top Web stories
While 2009 was not an entirely negative year, the top 10 most visited news events on the Pauls Valley Daily Democrat Web site included several news stories that focused on somewhat bad news.
Topping the list for the year was a photo slideshow of the downtown fire that claimed Honest Bus Pawn Shop and Precision Driving School in March, with 916 hits. The second and third most read items were each fatal car accidents, one for 23-year-old Amber Mantooth in March with 872 hits and the other related to the October death of 21-year-old Maygan Ann Ballard of Ada, with 850 Web hits.
The other seven most read Web site stories of 2009 were:
• In June, 55-year-old Fred Hesser committed suicide after kidnapping his former wife — 824 hits.
• The death of a young Maysville boy who was struck by a pickup in March — 811 hits.
• In September, Pauls Valley resident John Ensey, 60, died from injuries sustained after he was partially trapped under his truck for several hours — 791 hits.
• In May, a wreck that claimed the lives of Pauls Valley residents Lavon Sampson, 24, and Julia Jones, 26, —762 hits.
• In September, a fire that claimed the empty downtown Alvis Hotel — 712 hits.
• In March, the death of a 2-month-old Paoli boy — 669 hits.
• In June, Audra Lee Viola Rico, 31, a former Pauls Valley resident was killed in a two-vehicle accident — 660 hits.
The number of visits for the Daily Democrat’s Web site was determined using Google Analytics, which logs how many Internet visitors stop by the site.
