Truck driver hurt in wreck

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Questions still remain unanswered why a tractor truck went off a western Garvin County road earlier this week.

State troopers reported it was unknown what caused a 2009 Peterbilt truck to go off state Highway 29 in the early afternoon hours of Wednesday, Feb. 27.

Alone while driving the truck was 32-year-old Scott Duaine Newton of Elgin.

The truck was traveling eastbound on SH 29 when at a listed time of 12:38 p.m. Wednesday it went off the roadway to the right at a site about 9 miles west of Elmore City.

After the vehicle left the roadway it then struck an embankment and jackknifed.

Newton, who was not wearing seat belts at the time of the accident, was taken by ambulance to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

He was initially admitted in stable condition with head and trunk internal injuries.

Investigating the accident scene was Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Heath Green of the Garvin County Detachment.

Assisting were Trooper Bryant Harris of the Department of Public Safety Size and Weights Division, and the Elmore City Fire Department.
