Speed, dog part of Lindsay crash

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — A swerve to avoid a dog in the roadway is believed to have been a part of a one-vehicle accident this week resulting in hospital visits for a Lindsay trio that included a young child.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported the accident occurred Monday afternoon at a site just southwest of Lindsay.

Hurt was a passenger, 22-year-old Elaina Bonner of Lindsay, who was airlifted from the crash scene and taken to a Norman hospital.

An OHP report shows a total of five individuals were riding in a 2006 Hyundai driven by Jimmy Ramsey, 26, of Lindsay.

The vehicle was traveling westbound on a county road when at a listed time of 12:22 p.m. Nov. 12 it swerved to the right to avoid a dog.

When the car was overcorrected it went to the left crossing the road’s center line and running off the road in far western Garvin County.

Traveling through a fence the vehicle then rolled a half time landing on its top. The site was about 3 miles south and 2 miles west of Lindsay.

According to the report, Elaina Bonner, who was reportedly not wearing a seat belt, was ejected about 8 feet from the vehicle’s point of rest.

A state trooper listed the cause of the accident as the vehicle exceeding the legal speed limit.

Bonner was later airlifted to Norman Regional Hospital, where she was admitted in fair condition with head, trunk internal, arm and leg injuries.

Three-year-old Abbygale Bonner was taken by Lindsay E.M.S. to Purcell Municipal Hospital. She was treated and later released.

Ramsey was also treated and released after being taken to the hospital in Purcell by a Lindsay ambulance crew.

Not injured were 18-year-olds Dalton Hopson of Lindsay and Christopher Tarver of Duncan, who refused treatment at the scene.

Along with the youngest of the riders, both Hopson and Tarver were wearing seat belts when the crash occurred, troopers reported.

Investigating the crash was OHP Trooper Heath Green of the Garvin County Detachment with assistance from Lindsay firefighters.
