Pauls Valley, Oklahoma —
Authorities believe alcohol and one vehicle’s failure to stop just west of Pauls Valley played a role in causing a two-vehicle accident this past weekend.
Two of the three individuals involved in the accident were later treated at a hospital as the incident took place Sunday morning, Oct. 21.
A state trooper’s report shows 19-year-old Joseph D. Hartley of Maysville was driving a Chevrolet pickup southbound on a county road, while a second vehicle, a 2006 Kia, was driven by Charles T. Foster, 29, of Pauls Valley. This second vehicle was traveling westbound.
At a listed time of 7:06 a.m. Sunday the pickup is reported to have failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck by the second vehicle on Airline Road about a mile west of Pauls Valley.
The failure to stop was a trooper’s listed cause of the collision, while drinking impaired was a listed condition of the driver.
Both Hartley and a passenger in the pickup, Leanord Dale Gibson Jr., 20, Pauls Valley, were taken by ambulance to Pauls Valley General Hospital.
Hartley was treated and released, while Gibson was transported by Pauls Valley E.M.S. to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was admitted in stable condition with a back injury.
Foster refused medical treatment at the scene, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.
Trooper Heath Green of the Garvin County Detachment reported all three individuals were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
Others assisting at the wreck scene were Pauls Valley firefighters and police and Garvin County deputies.
