Pauls Valley, Oklahoma —
Authorities are still investigating what caused a one-vehicle accident that killed one Paoli resident and seriously injured another late Sunday night.
A preliminary report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol shows Lucas Ray Richardson, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Ashlee Danielle Richardson, 27, was initially admitted into an Oklahoma City hospital in critical condition.
The OHP report shows Ashlee Richardson was driving a 2003 Volkswagen westbound on state Highway 145 with Lucas Richardson inside as a passenger.
At a listed time of 10:13 p.m. Sunday the car went off the roadway to the right at a site about 1/2 mile west of Paoli.
It remains unknown what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway as state troopers reported they are still conducting an investigation.
When the vehicle did leave the state highway it returned to the road as the report shows the driver overcorrected and lost control sending the car into a broadslide.
The vehicle then went off to the right for a second time as it struck a culvert and rolled one complete time coming to rest on its wheels.
With neither individual in the car wearing seat belts at the time, troopers reported Ashlee Richardson was ejected about 26 feet from the vehicle’s point of rest.
The woman was airlifted from the scene to OU Medical Center, where she was admitted with various injuries, including to her head, leg, arm and trunk internal and external.
Lucas Richardson was pronounced dead due to massive injuries sustained in the accident. His body was transported to Winans Funeral Home in Maysville.
The accident was investigated by OHP Trooper Doug Brinson of the Murray/Garvin County Detachment with assistance from Garvin County deputies, Pauls Valley and Paoli firefighters, Paoli police and Pauls Valley E.M.S.
