The numbers are in and more could come later for a big summer time title up for grabs in Pauls Valley.
The title is for this year’s World Championship Watermelon Seed Spittin’ Contest held July 4th.
Despite plenty of seed being launched through the air, the annual Independence Day event was interrupted by a soaking summer storm passing through the PV area.
Since then officials with the event’s sponsor, Main Street Pauls Valley, have continued discussions about what to do next.
“Due to inclement weather, a ‘spit off’ for grand champion was not held,” said Main Street director Samantha Robb.
“The Main Street board is discussing options regarding the situation.”
There were, however, plenty of winners in the different age categories.
Recording the best distances in the adult divisions were Joe Don Looney for the men and Barbara Jones for the women. Both are from Pauls Valley.
In the Male 13-18 years old division the male winner was Joshiah White of Pauls Valley. For the females it was Sabra Landers of Hennepin who as the returning champion claimed her third overall title.
Adam English of Arkansas got the top “spit’ for the boys 12 and under, while Jessica Dobbins of Paoli won for the girls.
