One woman’s recollections, from being thrown to the floor to having a gun placed to her head, opened testimony Monday in the non-jury trial for an Elmore City area man accused of assaulting his estranged wife and others in 2010.
Lisa Williams took the stand in a Garvin County District courtroom to testify about what she could remember from the incident that now has her former husband facing a multitude of criminal charges.
Stan Williams, 39, is facing formal charges ranging from assault to kidnapping to burglary.
Those charges accuse Williams of forcing his way into the house where his wife lived when the two were going through divorce proceedings.
On that day, Dec. 21, 2010, Williams is accused of then committing an assault on a handful of women.
During her testimony Lisa Williams said the day started out OK as she and her two daughters planned to spend some time putting up a Christmas tree at their residence in the Elmore City area.
At one point, she said, Stan Williams called to let her know something very upsetting had happened and he was coming over to talk.
She told Assistant District Attorney Tara Portillo she had no idea what was upsetting to her husband.
After taking a short drive to talk, which included a lot of screaming, she said they returned to her house. It was there the defendant got out of the vehicle and ran to the residence while threatening two women who were friends of Lisa Williams.
Once they got inside Lisa Williams admitted things got a little “sketchy” when it came to remembering the exact order of events.
“The sequence of events is really blurry after that,” she said.
The admission later drew the attention of defense attorney Charles Douglas, who focused much of his questioning on comparing her answers Monday to those presented at a preliminary hearing last year.
“The first thing I remember is he grabbed Jessica (Hoover) by the hair and threw her to the floor,” Lisa said, referring to a friend who lived at the house.
“I remember a lot of throwing,” she said. “I remember him throwing us down to the ground. Every time we got up he would throw one of us down.”
According to Lisa Williams, her sister and two daughters left the house.
Then came what she claimed is the scariest part of the incident as Stan Williams came out of a room with a gun.
“It’s been two years trying to forget, but I do remember him putting a gun to Jessica’s head,” she said.
“At one point he said he was going to kill her and them kill me and then kill himself. I remember seeing her close her eyes.”
Instead, two woman got out of the house as Lisa Williams was pulled back in.
“He put his foot on my chest and the gun to my head, between my eyes,” she said.
The woman testified she was later able to get the gun when her sister re-entered the house and fought with the defendant, who later walked out of the residence bring an end to the ordeal.
During a cross-examination with the witness it was the defense’s contention Stan Williams was angered that night because he believed, truthfully or not, his wife had been involved in an extra marital affair. He is also alleged to have believed a friend of his wife knew this and didn’t tell him.
The non-jury trial is being overseen by District Judge Greg Dixon.
