Estel Lee Hatman

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Estel Lee Hatman of Pauls Valley passed away February 3, 2013 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years.

Estel Lee was born August 6, 1924 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Charley E. and Lucy (Spain) Spencer.

During World War II she and her dad, Charley, worked at the ship yards in California for the war effort. She was married to James M. “Dick” Hatman in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma on March 17, 1942.

Later she enlisted into the U.S. Army and began her tour of duty. She earned the World War II Victory Ribbon, Meritorious Service Unit Award and the American Theater Ribbon. She was discharged from the U.S. Army on November 19, 1945 and is a Veteran of World War II.

Except for time served during World War II, Pauls Valley has been her home most of her life.

Returning to Oklahoma she and her husband, Dick, made their home in the Rosedale area and worked at the Oklahoma University for a time in the Cafeteria and in Housekeeping. She later went to work as a Sales Clerk at Crabtree Drug where she worked for over 20 years having moved back to Pauls Valley in 1977.

Estel Lee loved the outdoors, including, playing softball and fishing as well as dancing, Country and Western music, but most of all she was crazy about her grandchildren and loved playing and spending as much time as she could with them.

She was also an excellent seamstress; making clothing for her family and many friends including wedding dresses and formals for proms.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Lucy Spencer; her husband, James M. “Dick” Hatman; brothers, C.E. Spencer and Glen E. Spencer; and a sister, Beulah Bell Pharaoh.

Surviving family include her children Ron E. Hatman and his wife Phyllis, Mary Beth Barton and her husband Bob, and Dianna Cuyos, all of Pauls Valley; one sister, Doretha Koon and her husband Paul of Lexington; one sister-in-law, Pat Spencer of Pauls Valley; eight grandchildren: Denese Noakes, Sher Blackman, Greg Kelsey, Angie Lack, Dan Sharp, Ryan and Natasha Hatman and Miranda Smith; 16 grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery officiated by Bro. Kenneth Campbell.

Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
