Viola Marie Mayo
Viola Marie Mayo, 95, passed away on July 25, 2009. Marie was born May 14, 1914 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Aletha Florence and Jerimiah Martin. She was second youngest of a family of nine children, who have all preceded her in death.
She grew up in Pauls Valley and graduated from Pauls Valley High School in 1930.
On August 8, 1931, she married a classmate, Robert Cecil Mayo. They established their home in Pauls Valley where their children were born and raised.
Marie was very active in school activities, serving as PTA president. She dedicated years of service to the First Baptist Church, where she taught three year olds for 20 years. She was a member of the Home Extension Club where she participated in many projects. Her greatest delight was keeping the family together with big family reunions.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 1980; one son, Robert Cecil Jr.; one granddaughter, Amber Elizabeth Mayo; a grandson, Robert Cecil Mayo III; and a son-in-law, Jerry Hines.
Marie is survived by three daughters: Ruth Hines, Betty Oberg, Doris Hines and husband Tommy Hines; five grandchildren: Rita Hines, Tony Hines and wife Tracey, Monty Westbrook, Lori Sample and husband Shawn, and Amy Hines; and eight great-grandchildren: Clint and Matt Freeman, John and Carolina Hines, Mitchell and Michelle Sample, Megan Sharp and husband Chris, and Blake Mulkey.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Stufflebean Chapel of Remembrance officiated by Dr. Joe Elam. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
