Anna Lee Moore Shumate

Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — Anna Lee Moore Shumate of Pauls Valley was born August 21, 1913 in Lindsay, Oklahoma to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Moore. She passed away December 30, 2012 at the age of 99 years.

Anna Lee attended Lindsay Public Schools, Lindsay High School and attended Oklahoma College for Women Chickasha where she received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She taught four years in the 2nd grade at Jefferson Elementary in Pauls Valley. She attended the First Baptist Church of Pauls Valley where she had also taught in the 2nd grade class since 1946.

She was married to Joseph Davenport Shumate in Lindsay, Oklahoma on May 4, 1941. On June 10, 1943 their daughter Joanna Margaret was born, later to be followed by their son Joseph K. Shumate on July 2, 1950.

Many of Anna Lee’s civic organizations include, president of the A.A.U.W, president of the American Legion Aux., president of the P.T.A, regent of the DAR, president of the Mothers Study Club, Hospital Auxillary and the Grand Dams Bridge Club.

Surviving family includes her daughter, Joanna Margaret and Chauncey D. Klingensmith of Pauls Valley; daughter-in-law, Lisa Kay Goodwin Shumate of Pauls Valley; sister-in-law, Margaret Brew of Norman; grandchildren: Erin Margaret Klingensmith-Duffy and husband Dennis, Leslie Anna Klingensmith-Taylor and husband Ed, and Chauncey Dale Klingensmith III and wife Julie; 5 great-grandchildren: Maggie, Embree and Beatrice Duffy, Samuel and Greer Taylor; and several nieces and nephews.

The family extends their special appreciation for the care given to Mrs. Shumate to: Rosa Brumley, Peggy Howard, Debbie Craddock, Alisha Riddle, Jody Digby and Bruce Ford.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Harry K. Moore Jr. and his wife Maurice; and her son, Joseph K. “Jay” Shumate.

Funeral services were held Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Pauls Valley. Interment was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
