Pauls Valley, Oklahoma — James Madison Morphew Jr., 85, of Purcell passed away Feb. 6, 2013 at Purcell, Okla. He was born Aug. 28, 1927 at Maud, Okla., to James Madison Morphew Sr. and Essie (Christian) Morphew.

While growing up James attended school at Story and Maysville. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Fireman First at Camp Pacific of Atlantic in San Diego, Calif. He married Betty Jo Shelton on March 24, 1959 in Wichita Falls, Texas. James lived most of his life in the Purcell area.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 at the First Baptist Church of Maysville with Rev. Brian Black and Joe Hendrix officiating.

Burial was in Purdy Cemetery under the direction of John Williams of Winans Funeral Home in Maysville. Go to www.winansfuneralhome.com to send online condolences to the family.
