Burl Edwin Kennedy

Burl Edwin Kennedy of Elmore City, Oklahoma, was born to C.F. and Ollie (Knight) Kennedy on November 9, 1914 in Katie, Oklahoma, and passed from this life on May 1, 2007 in Elmore City, Oklahoma at the age of 92 years.

Burl was born at the old home place in Katie, Oklahoma, and grew up and attended school at Satterwhite and Elmore City.

On October 29, 1938 he married Daisy Leota Scribner in Atoka, Oklahoma.

Burl was a school teacher at Foster and Elmore City and was also a superintendent at Elmore City. He also farmed and raised cattle. Burl owned and operated Kennedy Brothers Lumber with his brother Lynn in Elmore City, selling hardware, furniture, and appliances.

In 1948 he became a member of the Elmore City First United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher for the 7th, 8th and 9th grade boys. In his spare time Burl enjoyed fishing.

Mr. Kennedy is survived by one son, Paul Kennedy and his wife Linda of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one daughter, Linda McGee and her husband Roy of Elmore City, Oklahoma; one brother, Lynn (Hatch) Kennedy; three grandchildren: Mindy Lewis and her husband Joe Don, Mark McGee and his wife Leanne, and Paige Kennedy; and five great-grandchildren: Morgan Lewis, Maci Lewis, and Kyle Lewis, Sidney Kathryn McGee and Tripp Randall McGee.

Mr. Kennedy was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy Kennedy on March 6, 2003; his parents, C.F. and Ollie Kennedy; two brothers, Clyde Kennedy and Curtis Kennedy; and two sisters: Audrey Sparks and Ruby Kennedy.

Funeral services for Mr. Kennedy are scheduled for Thursday, May 3, 2007 at 10 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Elmore City with Rev. Gay Freeman and Dr. Bruce McCray officiating.

Interment will be in the Elmore City Cemetery under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home.
