Clyde Cockrell of Yukon was born May 6, 1929, in Louisville, Mississippi to James Everett and Rebecca (Kugle) Cockrell. He lost his parents at an early age and was raised by his brother, Granville Lee Cockrell and his wife. Clyde grew up in Mississippi where he attended school and graduated high school.
Clyde passed away Nov. 2, 2009, in Yukon, Oklahoma at the age of 80 years.
He and Elna Faye Berberette were married and were blessed with two daughters, Sherry and Liz. Faye preceded him in death on Sept. 2, 1985.
In 1986, Clyde and Myrtle Otilee Jones were married in Yukon, Okla.
Clyde began working for SOHIO Petroleum in 1949. He was later transferred to Louisiana and later to Texas where he worked for a number of years. In 1976 he and his family moved to Oklahoma and later made his home in Yukon, Okla., in 1982.
Retiring in 1985, Clyde was a district clerk for the SOHIO, then British Petroleum Company after 36 years of service. He was a member of Portland Avenue Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and sister-in-law, who raised him, Granville Lee Cockrell and his wife, Leslie; as well as other brothers, James Estell Cockrell and Prentice William Cockrell; and his wife, Faye Cockrell.
Surviving family include his wife, Myrtle, of the home; two daughters and their husbands, Sherry and Frank Ibach, of Norman; and Liz and Mike Crews, of Sulphur; two stepchildren, Bill McCurley and his wife, Linda, of Blanchard; and Barbara McCurley, of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren, Allison Eason and her husband, Brad, of Velma; David Ibach and Stephen Ibach, both of Norman; a great-granddaughter, Paisley Eason, and another soon to arrive, Landry Eason, of Velma; as well as his sister-in-law, Marie Cockrell, of Pearl, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Stufflebean Chapel of Remembrance officiated by Pastor James Ehrlich and the Rev. Bill Leveridge. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
