Billy Joe Rushing

Billy Joe Rushing of Sallisaw was born March 22, 1933, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Earl and Lucy Blanscet Rushing and passed away Nov. 16, 2009, in Sallisaw, Okla., at the age of 76.

He is survived by his wife, Lorene of the home; three daughters: Jeannie Pettis of Wellston, Okla., Yolanda Lee of Blanchard, Okla., and Lois Lightfoot of the home; three sons: Eddie Lightfoot of Sallisaw, Okla., Mike Rushing of El Reno, Okla., and Bradley Rushing of Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters: Mary Ann Mullens of Bridgeport, Texas, and Wanda Fuller of Wichita Falls, Texas; one brother; Jerry Rushing and his wife, Rexanne, of Pauls Valley, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sobal, Okla. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at the Mallory-Martin Chapel in Sallisaw, Okla., with the Rev. Ed Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in Akins Cemetery under the direction of the Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Mike Phillips, Eric Smith, Frank Lightfoot, Jimmy Lightfoot, Billy Ray Autry and Bradley Rushing.
