Betty Jewel Head of Elmore City was born August 13, 1930 in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Bulah B. (Kimbler) Gossage and John Robert Gossage.
She passed away Nov. 21, 2009, in Pauls Valley, Okla., at the age of 79.
Betty was raised around Stonewall, Okla. After moving to Maysville she met and married Arlie McKee, father of all her children.
She worked for SORC and retired from there in the 1970s. She then helped run two cafes with her sister Pauline Vestle, one in Maysville and one in Purcell. Afterwards she worked as a foster grandparent at Wynnewood middle school then at Elmore City schools. She enjoyed being around kids and looked forward to seeing them every day. She also enjoyed working with ceramics, painting and sewing.
Betty is survived by her three sons; John McKee of Blanchard, Lindsey E. and Fern McKee of Wynnewood and Arlis and Joyce McKee of Marlow; one daughter, Loetia Bone of Elmore City; three sisters: Joan White of Elmore City, Shirley Bullard of Elmore City and Patsy Cross of Pauls Valley; 19 grandkids and 21 great-grandchildren.
Betty is preceded in death by her mother Bulah Pendley, sister Pauline Vestle, husband Bobby Head and one great-grandson Christopher Brandon McKee.
Funeral services for Mrs. Head are scheduled for Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at 10 a.m. in the First Baptist Church in Elmore City with Dr. Bruce McCray officiating. Interment will be in the Katie Cemetery under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home.
