Hubert Leon Couch
Hubert Leon Couch of Pauls Valley was born on Sept. 11, 1931, in Elmore City, Okla., to Barlow and Lela (Hicks) Couch and passed from this life on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, in Norman, Okla., at the age of 78 years.
Hubert lived in Garvin County all of his life and attended school at McCarty Schools. On May 31, 1952, Hubert married Shirley Joan McCurley in Pauls Valley. Hubert worked for C&W Construction at Elmore City and then finished his working career at Tex. T. Liquid Gas Co., retiring in 1995.
Hubert loved people and never met a stranger. He liked to visit and would always say he could learn a lot from other people. He enjoyed meeting his coffee drinking buddies at McDonald’s, fishing, and loved to go camping with the Norman Wheels where he was known as Hubie. Hubert loved taking his family on a vacation every year. He loved to travel and saw most of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as England.
Hubert was a peacemaker. He always tried to please everyone. He taught his children to be honest, work hard, and enjoy life. Hubert was a member of the Grace Baptist Church.
Hubert is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley Couch of the home; three daughters: Pamela Parham of Norman, Okla., Sandra Ward and her husband, Danny of Yukon, Okla., and Anita Knox of Purcell, Okla.; eight grandchildren: Lyrissa Godwin and her husband, Jeff of Yukon, Okla., Lori Parham of Norman, Okla., Bryan Ward of Yukon, Okla., Angela Ward of Yukon, Okla., Tiffany Jennings of Edmond, Okla., and Colton Knox of Purcell, Okla., and Brittany Jennings of Edmond, Okla.; three great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Sierra Parham, Lauren Godwin, and Grayson Godwin; two sisters: Lavern Nabors and her husband, Jack of Elmore City, and Dorothy Harris and her husband, Kenneth of Cosa Mesa, Calif.
Mr. Couch was preceded in death by a brother: Curtis Couch; parents: Barlow and Lela Couch; and son-in-law: Don Knox.
Funeral services for Hubert Leon Couch are scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the Wooster Funeral Home Chapel in Pauls Valley, Okla., with the Rev. Don Chambers officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Pauls Valley, Okla.
