Catherine A. Horn Burum of Fort Worth, Texas, was born March 19, 1934, in Quinlan, Okla., to Calving and Anna Marie Horn. She passed away Dec. 8, 2009, in Fort Worth at the age of 75.
Cathy grew up in Maysville and Pauls Valley. She graduated from Maysville High School in 1952 as salutatorian. She attended Oklahoma A&M; College in Stillwater where she obtained a degree in psychology. She later completed her master’s degree in education.
Cathy taught high school English and literature in Texas. She finished her teaching career at DeVry University. She was active in her professional education organization, her church choir, and did individual counseling. She loved singing and writing. She was loved by her family, grandchildren and friends.
She had lived for a year in an active adult apartment community and had made many new friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Anna Marie Horn; and her husband, William S. Burum.
She is survived by a son, William Jay Burum and his wife Denise of Choctaw, Okla. and a daughter, Lori Cobb Holden and her husband Keith of Weatherford, Texas; three grandchildren, Josh Burum and his wife Amy of Germany; Jos Burum of Choctaw, Okla.; and Sydney Cobb of Weatherford, Texas; one great-grandchild Emery Burum of Germany; two sisters, Donna Hall of Norman, Okla., and Rose (Ree) Craddock of Pauls Valley, Okla.; and a brother, Terry Horn of Huntsville, Ala. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She will be laid to rest at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, beside her husband. A memorial service was held in Fort Worth on Dec. 12, 2009, at the Calvario Funeral Chapel. The services were officiated by Dr. Cindy Ryan.
