Jerome Matthews of Pauls Valley, was born September 28, 1919 in Stratford, Oklahoma to William A.N. “WAN” and Della Ann (White) Matthews.
He passed away January 1, 2010 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma at the age of 90 years.
Jerome and Clara Matthews Pelfrey were married in Purcell, Oklahoma on December 29, 1955. For many years he worked as a farmer. Later, he worked as an Oil Field Floor Hand and for the City of Pauls Valley.
Jerome loved the outdoors. Among many of the things he enjoyed included farming, trapping, picking pecans, but the best of all was fishing. One of the stories that he enjoyed talking about was one of the 96 pound catfish that he had caught while noodling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, WAN and Della Ann Matthews; his wife of over 51 years, Clara Pelfrey Matthews, on September 28, 2007; and son, Floyd J. Matthews in 1976; and six brothers: Ernest, Virgil, Luke, Abe, Ben and Sam; and four sisters: Minnie Loyd, Marie Chandler, Oneta Tucker and Oleta Hollingsworth.
Surviving family include his sisters-in-law: Jewel Palmertree of Wynnewood, Ruth Matthews Smith of Pauls Valley and Fern Matthews of Rush Springs; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Stufflebean Chapel of Remembrance officiated by Bro. Tim Duncan. Interment will be at Mt.
