Sesquicentennial Events & Information

Pauls Valley will celebrate its 150th birthday September 28-30 with activities in historic downtown Pauls Valley, Wacker Park and the Pauls Valley Airport. Important event and general information is listed below.



Sesquicentennial Planning Committee

The Pauls Valley Sesquicentennial Planning Committee will meet the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 4 p.m. at the PV Chamber of Commerce office. All organizations wishing to participate in the Sept. 29 event are encouraged to attend each meeting.



Ses-Quilt-Centennial

Main Street Pauls Valley will be hosting a special quilt show for Pauls Valley’s Sesquicentennial celebration Sept. 27-29. The event will showcase 150 or more quilts throughout historic downtown Pauls Valley. Any individual quilters or quilting groups who would like to participate should call Tania Landers at the MSPV office at 238-2555.



Sesquicentennial Birthday Cakes

Families, churches, businesses and civic organizations are invited to have their own personal birthday cake added to the giant 150th birthday cake which will be showcased during a special ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 29.

Sheet cakes with your family crest, civic group or business logo or just a special birthday message to Pauls Valley may be ordered through the Pauls Valley Chamber of Commerce. Deadline to order a cake is Friday, September 14.

Each cake is $27 and may be ordered in white or chocolate. To order your cake call the Pauls Valley Chamber office at 405-238-6491.



Classic Car Show

The Pauls Valley Police Department's annual Classic Car Show will be held this year in conjunction with the Sesquicentennial celebration. This car show features some of the best antique cars and custom hot rods in the region.

The show will be located at the corner of Ash and Paul, at the future location of the Pauls Valley Police Department. The car show will start at 7 a.m.



Oklahoma Centennial Plane

The N34, the FAA's last DC-3, built in Oklahoma in 1945, will fly into the Pauls Valley Airport and tours of the official state centennial plane will be given throughout the day, Sept. 29, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.



Touch of Ear Mule Team

The Pauls Valley Kiwanis Club will host “A Touch of Ear”, the nation's premier matching blonde sorrel draft mule hitch. This is the largest matching blonde sorrel draft mule hitch in the United States.

The mule team will be located at Wacker Park on Saturday, Sept. 29, beginning at 9 a.m. with various demonstrations held during the day.

The Pauls Valley Kiwanis Club will also have their Concession Wagon and Cook Trailer set up for food and drink sales during that time frame.



Western Gunfighters

The Pauls Valley Rotary Club will host a troupe of western gunfighters who will conduct gun fighting scenes and performances during the day. Performance times TBA.



Chickasaw Nation

The Chickasaw Nation will bring authentic Chickasaw dancers, storytellers and demonstrators to Pauls Valley to commemorate Pauls Valley's Chickasaw heritage. Performance times TBA.



Historic Photo Show

The Pauls Valley Arts Council and Historical Society will team up for a special photo show of historic photographs chronicling the history of Pauls Valley. The show will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.



Special Time Capsule Ceremony

The Pauls Valley Masonic Lodge and the Pauls Valley Historical Society will conduct a special time capsule ceremony at the Santa Fe Depot Museum and Plaza to commemorate Pauls Valley's Sesquicentennial at 3 p.m.

The ceremony will also include the raising of a special American flag which will be flown over our nation's capitol in Washington D.C. to commemorate Pauls Valley's Sesquicentennial and will end with a giant birthday cake for everyone to enjoy.



Ranch Rodeo

The Pauls Valley Round-Up Club will host a special Sesquicentennial Ranch Rodeo that evening at the Pauls Valley Round-Up Club arena. This unique form of rodeo is both exciting and different from the usual rodeo performances and will commemorate Pauls Valley's western heritage.



Community Wide Church Service

The Pauls Valley Ministerial Alliance will commemorate Pauls Valley's religious heritage and the important role our churches have played in the growth of Pauls Valley. The service will take place at Wacker Park on Sunday night, Sept. 30, beginning at 6 p.m.

The Baptist General Convention's Disaster Relief Team will be on hand to cook free hamburgers and hot dogs for everyone attending the service.



Free Concert

Immediately after the church service, there will be a gospel or country concert at the Wacker Park band shell. The concert will be free to the public. Performers will be announced later.



Grand Finale Fireworks Show

The weekend will end with a grand finale fireworks show at dark in Wacker Park. This will be a huge fireworks show, complete with music accompaniment.



Getting Around

Delta Transport will run a shuttle between downtown Pauls Valley, the airport and Wacker Park. All rides on the shuttle will be free of charge.

The Pauls Valley Chamber of Commerce will offer rides through historic downtown Pauls Valley on an authentic stagecoach. Rides on the stagecoach will be $1 per person.
