Pet lovers and owners will have the opportunity to showcase their pets during the 2007 Sesquicentennial Pet Fair on Saturday, September 29.
The pet fair will be held at the Wacker Park band shell between 10 a.m. and noon and is being sponsored by the Garvin County 4-H Clubs and the Pauls Valley Animal Welfare Society (PAWS).
Organizers of the pet fair said the contest will not only be a fun-filled family event but will also help raise money for PAWS.
“We are asking contestants to make a $5 donation to enter the contest, The money raised from entry donations will go to support local spay/neuter services for the homeless animals at the Pauls Valley Animal Shelter,” said Angela Williams, pet fair organizer.
Categories for the Sesquicentennial Pet Fair are as follows:
1. “Pauls Valley
Sesquicentennial Stroll”
Come one, come all! Everyone and their pets (leashed) are welcome to participate in the Sesquicentennial Stroll (Pet Pawrade). During the stroll, judges will be determining winners of the following competitions:
•Pauls Valley's Biggest Pet
•Pauls Valley's Smallest Pet
•Pauls Valley's Ugliest Pet_
•Pauls Valley's Cutest Pet_
•Pauls Valley's Longest Tail
•Pauls Valley's Most Unusual Pet_
•Pauls Valley's Most Unusual Mix (Breed)
2. "Dress Your Pet for the Best Pet Costume Contest"
Show off your favorite fashions with Sesquicentennial Style, handler's costumes optional! If your favorite pet likes to show his/her Sesquicentennial Spirit, see if he/she becomes a Sesquicentennial Dress Your Pet winner.
3. "Best Pet Trick/Talent Contest"
Be ready to perform your best trick pawsible! Pet talent contest open to all types of pets. Enter your talented pet to unleash their unique abilities and compete against other gifted pets on stage. The ultimate Sesquicentennial Pet star will be revealed.
4. “Owner/Pet Look-Alike Contest”
Do you look like your pet? Perhaps you share a physical resemblance with your pet, or a certain expression, maybe a similar twinkle in the eye. Watch the judges do a double-take and take the prize!
Participants must complete an entry form and submit their donations at the PET CONTEST TABLE at the Band Shell from 10 am - 10:30 am!
•Contests will begin at approximately 11:00 am.
•All decisions final and not necessarily logical.
•Pets must be up-to-date on their vaccinations.
“We are happy to have your entire family, including your pets participate in this event! Pets are allowed within Wacker Park but we ask contestants to abide the Pet Fair etiquette and/or city ordinances,” Williams added.
•Do not leave your pet unattended.
•Keep your pet on a leash (not to exceed 6') at all times or crated.
•Please clean up after your pet!
•No loud uncontrolled barking or unruly behavior will be tolerated.
