It’s going to be a hot rod-lover’s dream when the Pauls Valley Police Officer’s Open Car Show comes to town Sat., Sept. 29.
Scheduled in conjunction with the Pauls Valley Sesquicentennial weekend celebration, the show will be held at the Santa Fe Depot and will feature some of the best antique vehicles and custom hot rods in the region.
“We’ll have a large variety of vehicles on hand from newer models to older custom cars. There will be a lot of beautiful cars to see and nice people to meet,” said Larry Bean, event coordinator and reserve Pauls Valley police officer.
“There will be independent judging for street rods, originals, hot rods, mini custom cars, modified, trucks, antique and motorcycles as well.”
During the event, car show contestants will be vying for a chance to win some impressive trophies, nice door prizes and a 50/50 cash pot. The first 25 entries will also be awarded a commemorative 2007 car show T-shirt.
According to Bean, this is the 12th time the show has been held in Pauls Valley and the proceeds from each year’s event has gone toward fighting crime and equipping local police officers with some much needed supplies.
“Twelve years ago we were trying to come up with something to do as a fundraiser at the police department, so I suggested having a car show and it has worked out real well each year.
“There are a lot of things we need in order to do our job that we aren’t able to get with government funding alone. So the money we make from the car show helps to purchase some of those items, like safety equipment and technical equipment,” Bean explained.
“Besides police equipment, some of the proceeds we make will also be used to go toward funding the local Crimestoppers program in Pauls Valley. The program has made a big difference in the fight against crime in our city.”
Sign-in begins at 7 a.m. on the 29th and the entry fee for each contestant is $15 the day of the show or $12 for early entries. For more information, or to enter a vehicle in the car show, contact Larry Bean at 405-238-7905 or 405-788-2918.
