The Pauls Valley Lady Panthers had their chances Tuesday night at Dickson to win their third game of the season. The Lady Panthers fought back from 10 points down in the first half to tie the game with six minutes left in the game. The Comets rallied in the fourth quarter behind six points from Tory Dwyer for a 42-38 win.
Pauls Valley post players Jade Sharp and Lauren Wood continued to play well finishing with 15 and 10 points respectively to lead the Lady Panthers.
Dickson got off to a big start in the game. Dwyer hit a pair of three pointers in the quarter and finished with nine points in leading the Comets to a 16-6 lead. Wood scored four straight points in leading the Lady Panthers back to within a basket early in the second quarter.
Desiree Allen pushed the Comets back to an eight-point lead late in the first half scoring on two short jumpers. PV rallied late behind a three pointer from Cherokee Humphrey cutting the lead to 23-20 at the break.
Wood’s basket to start the second half cut the lead to one and the lead stayed around that point until midway through the third quarter when Dickson pushed their lead out to six.
Pauls Valley went on a mini run over the final minute of the third quarter and the first two minutes of the fourth quarter. A short jumper by Tawni Lindsay tied the game at 33 with six minutes remaining.
Dickson then scored five straight to regain the lead. Sharp hit a traditional three-point play and Wood hit a jumper from the middle of the lane tieing the score at 38 with a minute to go.
Dwyer hit four straight free throws as Pauls Valley had to foul to stop the clock and get the ball back. Those free throws were just enough for the Lady Comets to pull out the win.
PV will play in the Southern Oklahoma Classic that begins on Thursday in Plainview.
