The Badgers were looking for a little revenge when the Wilson Eagles came to town Saturday evening. Elmore City-Pernell lost to Wilson in the finals of the Black and Gold Classic before the Christmas Break 67-61 on a night when the Eagle couldn’t miss.
Saturday it was Elmore City-Pernell (Shane Collins) that couldn’t miss as Collins led the Badgers out to a huge lead and then ECP had to hang on for a 50-43 win over the Eagles.
Collins scored 13 of this game high 16 points in the first quarter including seven in a row late in the quarter that gave ECP a 27-7 lead.
After the first quarter explosion the Badgers started cooling off and by the second half had gone cold. After the 27 point first quarter the Badgers managed only 23 points in the final three quarters combined.
Wilson started chipping away at the 20-point deficit and midway through the fourth quarter, Reno Rains hit a three pointer to give the Eagles a one-point lead. Josh Hair came off the bench to score six straight including 2-of-2 from the line to give ECP back the lead and a cushion going into the final minute.
Wilson stayed in the game as ECP missed the front end of two one-and-one opportunities but Zac Burks sealed Wilson’s fate late with a pair of free throws for a seven-point win.
