Panthers rally past Lindsay

marie@pvdemocrat.com — After trailing by double digits early, the Pauls Valley Panthers picked up the pressure against the Lindsay Leopards and rallied for a 59-57 win on the consolation side of the the Charles K. Heatly Classic Friday.

This was the second day in a row that the Panthers have found themselves in a tight battle. Thursday, Pauls Valley had a chance to knock off Plainview but couldn’t get it done late losing 49-47.

PV was able to get it done Friday despite the hot shooting of the Leopards early in the game.

Tyler Miller led the Leopards with 11 points including three 3-pointers as they opened up a double digit lead. The lead was 16 when the Panthers rallied to cut it to 11 at the end of the quarter.

Lindsay cooled off in the second quarter but still increased their lead to 12 at the break. Andrew Cummings sparked the Lindsay offense with four points in the quarter.

Pauls Valley came out of the locker after the break with a new attitude. The Panthers extended their defense to the entire length of the court and forced the Leopards into several turnovers.

PV took advantage and cut the once 16 point lead to four at the end of the third quarter. Eight different players got into the scoring column in the quarter for Pauls Valley.

Behind the scoring of Dewayne Sanders, Carter Tate and Genesis Meave the Panthers got all the way back and took the lead midway through the fourth quarter.

Sanders had seven points in the quarter while Meave chipped in six more from the free throw line. and Tate had four big points.

Pauls Valley was able to win the game from the line late as their last six points came from the line.

Meave led the Panthers with 13 points and Jake Hamilton, Carter Tate and Dewayne Sanders all scored 10 for the Panthers in double figures.

Cummings led all scorers with 18 points for Lindsay. Hunter Mason added 15 and Tyler Miller 14 for the Leopards in double figures.

Pauls Valley will play Purcell in the consolation finals and then turn around and play them again on Friday. Linday will play the OKC Knights Saturday in the 7th place game and Tuttle on Tuesday.
