The Elmore City-Pernell Lady Badgers had a double-digit lead on several different occasions in Saturday’s district title game with Healdton. The Lady Bulldogs kept fighting back and made it a game but ECP held on for a 61-57 win.
Cali Nelson had a huge game with 20 points for the Lady Badgers. The ECP defense is what gave them the lead as their pressure created turnovers and pushed the lead out to double digits in the first half. Nelson had 18 first half points to lead the Lady Badgers to a 41-33 lead at the break.
The scoring slowed significantly for EC in the third quarter as they managed only 6 points as Healdton turned up the pressure on defense and trimmed the lead to one before Elmore settled in with a 47-45 led heading into the final eight minutes.
Elmore came out firing in the fourth quarter and reestablished their lead behind six points from Alexis Walck.
Lynsie Cantwell brought the Lady Bulldogs back lake with 6 points and Morgan Fletcher’s late three pointer cut the lead to a basket late.
Elmore City hit 2-of-4 free throws late and pulled out a four-point win.
Elmore City will face Chattanooga in a regional winner’s bracket game on Thursday in Chattanooga.
