Livingston pitches gem
Pauls Valley junior Caleb Livingston took to the mound Friday afternoon in McLoud loking to guide the Panthers past the Byng Pirates for the first time in a long time.
Livingston scattered eight hits over eight innings giving up a run on 8 hits. He struck out four and walked four in the game and got a huge 3-1 win over the Pirates.
The Panther defense backed Livingston up with a very rare no error contest.
Pauls Valley got on the board first in the top of the third inning. Chase Hunt led off the inning as he reached via a walk. Bo McKee then bunt him over to second. Terry Sanders followed with a walk and Livingston had a single that loaded the bases. With two outs on the board, Caleb Meave singled scoring Hunt for a 1-0 lead.
Byng came back and tied the game in the fifth. A lead off double by Wellington followed by a one-out single by Scroggins tied the game at 1-1 as Wellington scored from second.
Both teams had runners in scoring position in the sixth and seventh but neither could get one across the plate sending the game into extra innings.
In the top of the eighth, Meave led off the inning with a single and Sam Halverson followed with a bunt single and then a Dylan Norman single scored Meave to give PV a 2-1 lead.
Norman would later score to give the Panthers a two-run cushion.
Liingston got two quick outs to start the bottom half of the eighth but back-to-back singles gave the Pirates life. That all ended when Livingston got Pace to fly out to Bo McKee in center for the final out of the game. The win gave PV the advantage heading into game two.
