After the opening drive by each team you might have thought this game was going to be a track meet. Both Stratford and Wayne scored on their opening position but it was all Stratford after that as the Bulldogs defeated the Wayne Bulldogs 37-7.
The game was rather even with the number of plays run with both teams rushing 41 times and both teams throwing the ball six times. But despite those numbers being similar the yardage that came with those plays was heavy in favor of Stratford who finished with 278 total yards to Wayne’s 129.
Stratford took the opening drive and marched it down the field and into the end zone. Tyler Gaines scored his first varsity touchdown of the season hauling in a 20-yard pass from Chase Chamberlain.
Wayne returned the favor marching right back down the field to pay dirt. Leading rusher and passer for Wayne, Josh Barrett, carried the ball in from 19 yards out and gave the Bulldogs a 7-6 lead over the visiting Bulldogs from Stratford.
Stratford would score again this time in the second quarter as Nick Cosby bulled his way through the line and into the end zone from 31 yards outs and a14-7 half time lead.
Stratford would give themselves a little cushion in the third quarter as Chamberlain scored twice on runs of six and one yards. Add in a safety as Wayne snapped the ball over the punters head and out of the end zone for a safety.
Stratford would score once more in the fourth quarter as Alix Vanlandingham picked up a loose ball returning it 30 yards for the touchdown.
Stratford is 3-3 on the season. Stratford will make the long road to Mounds Friday night for their next game.
