The Maysville Warriors already have the fourth playoff spot in district A-4 wrapped up but nothing will change for Coach Jeff Hall and the Warriors as they host Empire.
“You can ask my coaching staff or kids, I’m one of the most competitive guys in the world,” Hall said. “We are going in to win Friday night.
“Our attitude will be the same. We have to worry about ourselves. We are looking to add another slash in the win column.”
Empire has a familiar face on the side line in Tony Roberts. Roberts has been several places as a head coach and an assistant, including Maysville and at Newcastle as an assistant coaching Hall.
“He is so old,” Hall said. “He coached me when I was in the 8th grade. Everywhere he has coached though, he has his teams prepared to play.”
Roberts has had a tough year at Empire suffering though youth and injury.
“They are so young and have had quite a few injuries,” Hall said. “The quarterback that started the year got hurt, his back-up got hurt and now they are playing their full back has moved to quarterback.”
Despite all the movement with players, the Bulldogs will line up and run a bunch of different looks at Maysville Friday night.
“Offensively, they are very versatile,” Hall said. “They will line up in the spread, the I-formation, double tight, whatever you can imagine, we will probably see.”
Defensively, Empire will run a 4-4 at the Warriors. They run a tight eagle defense and their outside linebackers try to keep contain.
The Warriors are on a three-game win streak and starting to really gel as they begin the playoffs.
“That was our third straight game with a healthy lineup,” Hall said. “Now we have everyone in the position they were supposed to be. We are starting to gel.”
Kick off for the Warriors will be at 7:30 p.m.
