Fast start lifts Lady Pugs

A 15-1 run by the Paoli Lady Pugs at the start of Tuesday’s game with the Elmore City-Pernell Lady Badgers was more than enough to push the Lady Pugs to a 54-35 win on the Lady Badgers’ home court.

Jessica McNeill helped spark the run with six points as Paoli scored the first seven points. After ECP’s Lacey Powers’ free throw ended that run Paoli scored eight more for a 15-1 lead.

Elmore finally got going in the second quarter cutting the 14-point deficit to eight on two different occasions in the quarter. Paoli’s Jamie Uhles and Julie Uhles kept Elmore City at arms length with a couple of baskets each and Julie Uhles’ basket late gave the Lady Pugs an 11-point half time lead.

Three different Lady Pugs scored to start the second half and pushed the lead out to18. After exchanging baskets Casey Mantooth’s three pointer extended the lead out to 20.

The lead stayed around the 20-point mark until late when Julie Harrel’s basket cut the lead to 17.

Jamie Uhles hit a basket to start the fourth quarter that gave Paoli a 19-point lead. Jordan Simpson hit a three pointer for the Lady Badgers but that 16-point deficit would be as close as Elmore-Pernell would get as Lauren Guadarrama hit five points in a 7-0 run for their largest lead of the game at 23.

Elmore’s Morgan Lewis hit a three pointer late that helped cut the final margin to 19.

Guadarrama led the Lady Pugs with 12 points while Simpson led the Lady Badgers with 11.

Elmore will be at home against Maysville on Tuesday while Paoli will be at Ninnekah.
