Pair of second half runs lifts ECP

A pair of second half runs blew open a close game pushing the Elmore City-Pernell Badgers to a 57-37 win over rival Paoli Tuesday night at the Royce Teakell Gymnasium in Elmore City.

Leading by seven and then by nine in the third quarter, Elmore-Pernell went on a 10-0 run and followed that up with a 9-2 run as they rolled to a 20-point win.

Dyllan Brassfield, Colt McConnell and Jonathan Harrell helped the Badgers turn a seven-point lead into a 16-point lead with six, four and four points each in a 14-5 run to start the second half. Paoli had eight straight points to cut the lead back to eight with just over 40 seconds to go in the third quarter.

Elmore City scored six straight points in the final 30 seconds including Brassfield’s basket at the buzzer that gave them a 15-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Elmore continued their run with four straight points to start the fourth for a 10-0 run and a 19-point lead. Paoli center Cody Travis ended the Badger run with a turn around jumper in the lane.

Elmore then went on a 9-2 run as they opened up their largest lead of the game at 24. McConnell had five points in the run that put the game out of reach. Paoli scored four straight late to cut the final margin to 20.

Four different players scored in double figures with Brassfield leading the way with 18 points. Harrell added 12 and McConnell 11. Rickey Jeandemange led the Pugs with 13 points and Cody Travis added 10.

Paoli will be at Ninnekah Tuesday night in their next regular scheduled game while Elmore will host rival Maysville.

    It’s a football Thursday night for the Wynnewood Savages as they open the 2010 season at home tonight with Crescent.
    “Crescent wanted to open up next year on a Thursday night when we returned the home-and-home matchup,” Wynnewood head coach Brad O’Steen said. “So we talked about it here and thought it would benefit us to play on Thursday night this year.”
