Sharp's buzzer beater lifts Lady Panthers

The Pauls Valley Lady Panthers rallied in the final minute for their first win of the season Tuesday night in Lone Grove.

Trailing by four points, the Lady Panthers cut the lead to one and Jade Sharp completed the comeback with a jumper in the lane at the buzzer for a 36-35 win over the Longhorns.

Sharp had four of the five points in the final minute but it was the Lady Panther defense that came up with key steals down the stretch that led to the win.

Pauls Valley had several chances to come up with the win before the buzzer beater but couldn’t get it done from the free throw line. PV was 13 of 31 from the line including 3 of 11 in the final eight minutes.

Trailing by four, 35-31, with a minute to go, Haylee Graham hit one of three free throws after being fouled on a three point shot. PV got a steal and a shot at the basket but couldn’t connect.

Lauren Wood then came up with a steal in the pressure defense and fed Sharp for a basket that cut the lead to one with 14 seconds remaining. PV forced Lone Grove into another turnover on the inbounds play and they got the ball with 12 seconds remaining.

PV worked the clock down and got the ball to Sharp in the lane. Sharp hit the turn around shot at the buzzer for the win.

Graham had a double-double before the half with 14 points and 10 rebounds, but foul trouble kept her on the bench a majority of the second half. Graham had 11 points in the first quarter. She nailed three three-point shots as PV grabbed a 14-8 lead.

The Lady Panthers continued on their run in the second quarter with six straight points as PV took a 20-8 lead. Graham hit her fourth three pointer of the half in the run.

Pauls Valley looked to have the game under control when Lone Grove went on a 14-2 run to close out the quarter as they tied the score at 22. Sprouse had six points in the Longhorn run as did Deen.

The game went back-and-forth until early in the fourth quarter. PV had a 31-30 lead when Lone Grove scored five straight to grab control of the game.

The Lady Panthers then rallied in the final minute for their first win of the season.

Pauls Valley will look for win No. 2 on the road at Sulphur Friday night.
