Lady Badgers rally past Wynnewood

The Elmore City-Pernell Lady Badgers rallied from as many as 12 points down with a big second half to beat the Wynnewood Lady Savages 60-57 in an elimination game at the Big 8 Tournament on Wednesday.

Wynnewood, behind Simean Hall’s 12 points, had built the double digit lead in the first half behind a 20-point first quarter. Elmore City chipped away at the lead and took their first lead of the game late in the third quarter and held a 42-41 lead heading into the final eight minutes.

Wynnewood scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to regain the lead. Elmore responded with a 10-0 run that ended with a big three-point shot by Rebecca Herrod. Hall would end the Wynnewood drought with a basket and a JK Hays free throw would cut the lead to 52-49.

Herrod would strike again from beyond the arc to push the lead back out to six. Wynnewood would make a run over the final 2:30 cutting the lead to one after a Morgan Sloan basket.

Whitlee Willson would hit a pair of free throws for Elmore to push the lead back to three with 30 seconds remaining.

Wynnewood had their chances down the stretch from the free throw line and with shots. Hays’ three pointer with 10 seconds to go hit off the front of the rim and bounced off and Elmore got the rebound and was fouled.

A pair of missed free throws by the Lady Badgers gave WW one last chance. With six seconds remaining, Wynnewood got up the court but couldn’t get a shot off losing by three.

Elmore City advances to the consolation finals where they will face Maysville on Friday.
