No. 3 Stratford rolls

The Paoli Pugs got a basket off the opening tip but that would be the last lead they would see against the No. 3 team in Class A, the Stratford Bulldogs, in Thursday’s semifinal of the Big 8 Tournament.

Stratford would explode after that with their pressure defense for a 15-2 run and never looked back as they topped the century mark for the third time in four games, 111-33.

Junior phenom Dalen Qualls recorded his fourth double-double of the year with 47 points and 10 assists for the Bulldogs. Tommy Lawson finished with 20 and Matthew Knight 19 for the players in double figures for the Bulldogs.

Paoli was led by Cody Travis and Daniel Gibson who both scored eight.

“We came out and hustled real well and played with a lot of intensity,” Stratford head coach Mark Qualls said.

Stratford will now face the Elmore City-Pernell Badgers in the finals of the tournament on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
