The Elmore City-Pernell Badgers did what they needed to Friday night to secure a playoff spot in the upcoming Class A playoffs.
A late fourth quarter push lifted the Badgers to a 35-14 win over the Stratford Bulldogs sending ECP on the road in the first round of next week’s playoff games.
Stratford’s Chase Bradstreet opened the scoring with a 6-yard pass from Randy Brown. Dakota Noland helped set up the touchdown with a 70-yard run to inside the Badger 10-yard.
Shane Collins and the Badgers responded by driving down the field and scoring on a 1-yard run to give ECP an 8-7 lead.
The Badgers would score again just before the half as Quinton Stueart raced in from 26 yards out after a late pitch by Collins on the option.
Stratford tied the scored early in the fourth quarter as Bradstreet hauled in a 26-yard pass from Brown tieing the game at 14.
The defense’s would shine over the next six minutes. The Badgers would put together a drive late that would end with a 6-yard touchdown run by Collins to give ECP the lead.
Stratford would get the ball back but a big hit and a turnover would lead to a 33-yard touchdown run by Stueart.
Elmore City would get the ball back late and Collins would put the game on ice with a 14-yard touchdown to seal the win.
The Badgers finished with 378 yards in total offense all of it coming from their run game. Shane Collins lead the way with 155 yards and 3 touchdowns. Quinton Stueart had 98 yards and two touchdowns.
Dakota Noland had 119 yards to lead the Bulldog offense. Chase Bradstreet had 70 total yards and the two Stratford touchdowns.
Noland led the way on defense for Stratford with 12 while Wright and Miller both had 11 each.
Elmore City will be heading east to face Savannah.
