Alvarado sparks PV in win

marie@pvdemocrat.com — Veronica Alvarado came off the bench in the second half to spark the Pauls Valley Lady Panthers scoring 14 points in leading them to a 45-31 win over rival Wynnewood.

Usually a starter, Alvarado had to miss the first two quarters because she missed the bus carrying the team to Wynnewood.

In her absence Mary Beth Balcerak and Cherykee Humphrey led the Lady Panthers out to an early lead. PV led 7-0 before the Lady Savages cracked the scoring column.

J. Carter sparked the Lady Savages offense in the second quarter with 8 points and the defense held PV to only 7 as Wynnewood took a 19-18 lead. Abigail Grimmett had two big baskets in the quarter for Pauls Valley to keep the game close.

Wynnewood led 21-18 when Alvarado entered the game. Kaille McMahan hit a free throw and Alvarado hit nothing but net with her three point shot to give the Lady Panthers back the lead.

The game was tight for the rest of the quarter but a three-point shot at the buzzer pushed Pauls Valley’s lead out to three 29-26.

The Lady Panthers picked up the pressure on the defensive side of the ball in the fourth.

Pauls Valley got a couple of easy baskets and also got the free throw line where they hit 6-of-10 attempts.

Alvarado had a couple of three-point baskets in the process as Pauls Valley pulled away for at 14-point win.

Alvarado finished with a game hit 14 points leading all scorers.

Jessica Richardson played a steady game all night scoring 10 points for the only other play in double figures.
