The Maysville Warriors will step up a class for their season opening opponent on Friday night. It’s a team the Warriors have some familiarity with in Class A but because of the reclassification, Christian Heritage Academy is now in Class 2A.
“Christian Heritage is a team we have some history with,” assistant coach Brandon Voss said. “We played them a couple of years ago in the second round of the playoffs.”
The Crusaders finished 5-5 a year ago and just out of the playoffs. Maysville will start the season having made the playoffs three years in a row and looking for a school record fourth.
Offensively, CHA will show several different looks to the Warriors.
“They will line up in the spread look one play and then jump into an I-formation the next and pound the ball at you,” Voss said. “It’s going to be a unique challenge for our defense.”
Maysville’s stingy defense will have a challenge ahead of them against all the CHA weapons, which are led by the Crusader quarterback..
“Their quarterback is extremely shifty and throws the ball well,” Voss said. “He is one of the best we will see all season.”
Defensively, the Warriors will face the 3-3-5 look from CHA. Linebacker Josh Blair leads this odd stacked defense.
“They will bring people from everywhere with their stunts and blitzes,” Voss said. “We just have to be ready for anything.”
The Warriors will make the trip to Del City for a 7:30 p.m. start with the Crusaders.
