Husband arrested in death of wife, unborn child

..."he hadn't been completely honest" in his report.

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma — A suburban Oklahoma City man was arrested Friday in connection with the death of his wife and her unborn child, a police spokeswoman said.

Justin Adams reported his wife missing on Dec. 10 after finding her van at a fast food restaurant. Jaymie Adams' body was found on Jan. 7 along a bike trail about a mile north of Lake Stanley Draper in a rural part of southeastern Oklahoma City.

The Medical Examiner's Office has not ruled on the cause of Jaymie Adams' death but has confirmed she was pregnant when she died.

Adams, 25, was arrested on a warrant Friday at his home and held at the Oklahoma County Jail without bond, according to police and online jail records. Oklahoma City police Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow said formal charges have not been filed in the case.

Adams' attorney, Irven Box, said investigators have considered him a suspect in his wife's death all along and his arrest came as no surprise.

Investigators focused on Adams in the early stages of their investigation and told him he was a suspect when they refused to let him retrieve personal items from his wife's vehicle, Box said. Police also impounded Adams' mother's vehicle because he said he drove it while searching for his wife.

But Box said Adams had nothing to do with his wife's death, knew she was pregnant and has been "very emotional and distraught." Box said police told him the unborn fetus was in the first three months of development.

Adams initially told police his wife went to the restaurant to meet a friend but he didn't know the friend's name, according to a police affidavit.

The affidavit said Adams returned to police on Dec. 11 and said "he hadn't been completely honest" in his report. He then said his wife was involved in online prostitution and had called him to say she was meeting a client at the restaurant where the van was found. He said she later sent him a text saying the client had failed to appear.

Police are investigating both Jaymie Adams' death and the death of her unborn child as homicides.
